The distributor is responsible for when the film is released, and where. The transportation of the film to the various cinemas that the film is going to be shown in is also made responsible by the distributor. They are also responsible for the marketing of the film which means the posters, adverts, interviews and trailers.
There are two different types of distributors, which are major studio and independent.
- Independent distributors make smaller scale films, as they have less money and resources. Generally, they rely on the larger, more well known companies for funding.
- Major studio distributors are the producers and distributors as they have the money and resources to do both. They produce and distribute big blockbuster films that are viewed worldwide.
The production company is the place where the ideas and the script are made, film makers get their funding from the production company and they also get their cast, crew and locations.
For our coursework project, we chose to distribute and market our film independently via Youtube, allowing everyone who has the internet to access it.
Age ratings: In class we looked at diferent age restrictions, in relation to the content of the film. The British Board of Film Classification watch every film that is released in the UK snd decide the age groups that are suitable to view it. Lots of factors are included when making the decision, including sex, violence, drug use, discrimination, horror and nudity.
Here are the age rating given to films:

12A - Children under the age of 12 can watch the film with an adult
